Prenuvo explained: what a $2,499 whole-body MRI finds, the evidence, real costs and alternatives

Prenuvo sells radiation-free whole-body MRI scans to people without symptoms, from $1,199 for a shorter scan to $3,999 for a scan bundled with brain, body-composition and blood tests. Since March 2026 it has also sold them as annual memberships. Whole-body MRI does find cancers and other serious conditions in a small share of healthy people. What no study has shown yet is that scanning healthy people this way helps them live longer, and nearly everyone scanned has at least one finding, most of them harmless.

What this page is. A Build My Longevity research deep dive, not a hands-on review. BML has not had a Prenuvo scan. Our assessments draw on Prenuvo's own pages and terms, published research, court reporting, journalists' first-hand accounts and public customer ratings, and we label which is which. Prenuvo did not see or approve this page. No brand pays to be listed or for its position. Not medical advice.

BML's short verdict. Prenuvo sells a test whose value for healthy people is still unproven. The scan is long and radiation-free and covers most of the body, and in Prenuvo's own study about 1 in 45 people scanned turned out to have cancer, mostly early. But nearly everyone scanned has some finding, about 30% of people in published studies need further tests, and no trial has yet shown that whole-body screening helps people live longer. Radiology's main US professional body doesn't recommend it for people without symptoms or risk factors. A clear scan is also not a clean bill of health: it doesn't replace mammograms or colonoscopy, and Prenuvo faces a malpractice suit alleging a radiologist missed a narrowed brain artery before a stroke.

  • May suit people with money to spare who want a baseline and accept that it will probably turn up findings to discuss with their doctor; people worried about cancers that have no routine screening (kidney, pancreas, ovary), after talking it through with their own doctor; and people who would otherwise buy several separate scans and want them in one visit. With a strong family history or a known gene variant (BRCA, CHEK2 and others), the right surveillance plan is one for your clinician to set. This page can't say whether a Prenuvo package fits it, and Prenuvo says its exam doesn't replace a dedicated breast MRI.
  • Think twice if borderline findings would badly stress you, or you can't afford the follow-up tests they may lead to; a clear scan would tempt you to skip guideline screening (mammogram, colonoscopy, cervical screening, lung CT if eligible); you mainly want heart-risk information, since the scan doesn't show coronary plaque; or you mainly want body composition, where a DEXA scan costs from $59.95 against Prenuvo's $499 add-on.

How it works

  1. You book and pay. No referral is needed in the US. Pick a scan or membership and a clinic.
  2. The scan. You lie in a wide-bore (70 cm) MRI scanner. No radiation, no contrast injection. Prenuvo says its claustrophobia rate is about 1%, and that a doctor can prescribe a mild sedative if needed.
  3. Bloodwork (memberships and Enhanced only). A blood draw for the panel in your tier; some reviewers had it done at home.
  4. The report. A radiologist reads the images and writes a report organized by body system, with findings color-coded by urgency. You get links to the images (DICOM files) to share with your own doctor.
  5. The results call. A nurse practitioner or physician, assigned by availability and state licensing, explains the report. You can't choose who. If something urgent turns up, a provider calls you directly.
  6. Follow-up. Prenuvo doesn't order follow-up tests or make referrals. Its clinicians may suggest what to follow up, and it says it will work with your doctor.
  7. Memberships. Members get up to one MRI a year plus blood panels, a second panel and review at six months (Comprehensive and Executive), and later scans compared with earlier ones.

Brain, body-composition and heart measurementsFDA-cleared software: NeuroQuant for brain volumes, MyoStrain for heart muscle, Prenuvo's own AI for body compositionPrenuvo's pages and its 2025 release

What that means for you. Prenuvo is a scan and a report, not ongoing care. Anything flagged becomes your own doctor's job, and usually your insurer's bill, so it helps to know before you book whether your doctor is willing to look at the report.

What it can and can't see

Good at (by Prenuvo's account and the research)Not designed for (Prenuvo's own FAQ)
Solid-organ masses: kidney, liver, pancreas, ovary, bladder, thyroidColon polyps: not designed to detect them
Brain masses and aneurysms (Whole Body Scan)Breast screening: doesn't replace mammography or dedicated breast MRI
Spine and disc problemsCoronary plaque or blocked arteries: the heart add-on measures muscle movement, not plaque
Fatty liver, organ size and fat distributionSmall lipomas; diagnostic joint assessment
Changes over time, if you scan againActive cancer surveillance; diagnosing Alzheimer's

The Focused Scan ($1,199) covers head to mid-thigh. Prenuvo's listings say it leaves out the arms, spine and aneurysm assessment, and that the brain and heart add-ons can't be bought with it. Check the current listing before choosing it.

What the evidence shows, claim by claim

Whole-body MRI finds cancer in about 1 to 2 people in every 100 scanned, finds something in almost everyone, and hasn't yet been shown to help people live longer. These are separate questions, and the research answers them differently.

1. How often does whole-body MRI find cancer in healthy people?

In roughly 1 to 2 in 100.

  • 2020 reviewindependent1.1%
  • 2025 meta-analysisindependent; 9,024 people1.57%
  • Polaris, 2025Prenuvo's own; 1,011 people2.2%
  • Independent meta-analysis (2025). University of Florida researchers pooled 10 studies of 9,024 people without symptoms and found a cancer detection rate of 1.57%. They concluded that current evidence doesn't support routine whole-body MRI in people without symptoms, citing low detection rates, inconsistent reporting and a lack of survival data (European Radiology, reported by Diagnostic Imaging, Sep 2025).
  • Independent review (2020). Across 12 studies and 6,214 scans of people without symptoms, 1.1% of those with confirmed outcomes reported (41 of 3,692) had a cancer confirmed by tissue testing. The authors called the studies too varied to draw firm conclusions on efficacy (Zugni et al., Cancer Imaging, 2020).
  • Prenuvo's own study (Polaris, 2025). Of 1,011 mostly asymptomatic people scanned at one Canadian clinic, about 2.2% were diagnosed with biopsy-confirmed cancer, mostly early-stage, including kidney, bladder and ovarian cancers. About half of the biopsies the scans led to found cancer. Among people with a clear scan, 99.8% stayed cancer-free for at least a year; the cancers missed were breast cancers. Prenuvo says 64% of the cancers were localized and 68% were in organs with no routine screening program. The results were presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in April 2025; we found no full journal publication as of November 5, 2026 (Radiology Business; Prenuvo white paper).

Prenuvo's 2.2% sits above the independent figures. Its own cohort, a single clinic and one year of follow-up are all reasons it may not hold for every buyer. Finding a cancer also isn't the same as changing its outcome: some slow-growing cancers found this way might never have caused harm.

2. How often does it find something else?

Almost always.

  • Any abnormal findingAbout 94 in 100
  • Needed further evaluationAbout 30 in 100
  • Cancer suspectedAbout 2 in 100
  • Cancer confirmedAbout 1 in 100

From Zugni et al., 2020, whose denominators differ by row because not every study reported every measure. Of nearly 18,000 individual findings, 91% were benign or not clinically relevant.

  • Prenuvo's own figures, reported around its 100,000th scan in December 2024: up to 5% of patients alerted to a potentially life-threatening condition, and another 49% with something worth monitoring (Radiology Business). Its FAQ says most scans show some findings, often age-related or benign.
  • Journalists' scans show the typical pattern: dense breast tissue, a disc bulge, small cysts, a minor brain white-matter spot. Usually "monitor" or "nothing to do" (see What people found).

The risk is the cascade: a finding leads to repeat imaging, specialist visits and sometimes biopsies, each with cost, anxiety and occasionally harm. An NYU oncologist told Axios most findings she sees from these scans are false positives or benign, and follow-up tests can be costly and invasive (Axios, Jul 2025). A Michigan radiologist reviewing a Fortune reporter's scan said 20% to 40% of cross-sectional imaging studies have an incidental finding (Fortune, 2024). Follow-up costs aren't included in Prenuvo's price.

3. Does it help people live longer?

Not shown. No randomized trial has tested whether whole-body MRI screening of healthy people reduces deaths. The American College of Radiology says there isn't enough evidence to recommend total-body screening for people without symptoms, risk factors or family history, citing no documented evidence that it is cost-efficient or prolongs life, and concern about findings that lead to unnecessary follow-up (ACR, Apr 2023).

Prenuvo's case is that waiting for survival data would take decades, and that comparing its scan with single-cancer tests is the wrong comparison, since it covers organs with no screening at all (Axios; Prenuvo white paper). It is now sponsoring Project Hercules, a 10-year study of up to 100,000 people near Boston, registered as NCT06212479 and announced in June 2024, which will track diagnoses and outcomes. It is Prenuvo-sponsored and led by a Prenuvo radiologist, and its results are years away (ITN, Jun 2024). Scans at Prenuvo's Boston clinic are booked as part of this study.

Whole-body MRI does have an established use in one group: people with inherited cancer syndromes such as Li-Fraumeni (TP53), where NCCN and American Association for Cancer Research guidance recommends regular scans (summarized in Zugni et al.). That's a different population from the healthy buyers Prenuvo mostly serves.

4. Can a clear scan miss things?

Yes. Prenuvo's own FAQ lists what the scan isn't designed to find (above), and in its study the cancers missed were breast cancers, which is why it tells eligible women to keep having mammograms.

Missed findings are also the subject of the best-known case against Prenuvo. In September 2024, Sean Clifford sued Prenuvo and the radiologist who read his July 2023 scan in New York State Supreme Court. He alleges the images showed a 60% narrowing of a major brain artery that the report didn't flag, and that he had a severe stroke in March 2024 when the artery blocked. Prenuvo has denied the allegations in court filings. It first sought arbitration, then asked the court to apply California law, which caps malpractice damages; both bids failed, the second in a ruling dated December 19, 2025 (Ars Technica, Jan 2026; Radiology Business). The claims haven't been decided as far as we could find. Customers on Trustpilot, the BBB and Reddit also describe findings they say a Prenuvo report missed or dropped.

What it means for buyers: a scan is read at one point in time, without a doctor who knows you in the room. Prenuvo's own material treats it as a complement to other screening, not a replacement for it, and new symptoms are still a reason to see your doctor whatever a report said.

5. The add-ons: brain, heart and body composition

Add-onWhat it measuresWhat BML found
Brain Health ($799)Volumes of brain regions compared with age percentiles (NeuroQuant, FDA-cleared software)Measures structure, not cognition. Prenuvo says Alzheimer's is typically a clinical diagnosis. No evidence found that knowing these percentiles improves outcomes
Heart Health ($799, select markets)Heart-muscle movement (MyoStrain) and a MyoHealth scorePrenuvo says it doesn't directly show blockages, plaque or coronary artery disease. A calcium score CT ($249 via Fitnescity, on Mito's listing) and ApoB and Lp(a) blood tests are the tools usually discussed for coronary risk
Body Composition ($499)Muscle and fat, including visceral fat, from the MRI (Prenuvo's FDA-cleared AI)FDA clearance covers the measurement, not a health benefit. A DEXA scan measures similar things from $59.95 (BodySpec) or from $90 (DexaFit, varies by location)
Blood panels (from $29, only with a scan)Metabolic, hormone, nutrient, heavy-metal and allergy panels by tierLab partner not stated on the pages checked. Lipids, HbA1c and ApoB are available far more cheaply on their own (see our Function Health deep dive)

6. Longevity claims

No study shows that a Prenuvo scan extends life. Its marketing centers on early detection and peace of mind, and celebrity endorsements (Kim Kardashian, Cindy Crawford, who is also an investor) have driven much of its visibility. Those are marketing, not evidence.

What it really costs

A single Whole Body Scan costs $2,499. Kept up every year, five years of membership costs $5,995 for Core, $12,495 for Comprehensive and $19,995 for Executive ($22,495 in New York City), before any follow-up tests. Figures are cash paid by each anniversary at today's list prices, assuming prices don't change. The packages cover different things, so a cheaper row isn't an equivalent service.

The Comprehensive membership costs the same as one standalone Whole Body Scan. Both are $2,499. The membership adds blood panels and a second results review, but it renews automatically. Prenuvo's terms say you'll be charged the then-current fee about two days before the term ends, unless you cancel at least three business days before it expires, and that you'll get a reminder at least 30 days ahead. If you only want one scan, note the renewal date.

Not included above:

  • Follow-up imaging, specialist visits and biopsies from findings. These go through your own doctor and insurance, and are the cost most likely to surprise you
  • Add-ons for standalone scans (brain $799, heart $799, body composition $499, blood panels from $29)
  • Guideline screening the scan doesn't replace (mammogram, colonoscopy and others)
  • Travel to a clinic, and a sedative prescription if you need one

Ways people pay less. Prenuvo's referral terms give a new patient $300 off a standalone Whole Body Scan or first year of Comprehensive or Executive through an existing patient's code, and give that patient a $200 credit; promotions can differ, and codes posted on Reddit in 2025 and 2026 offered $300 or $400. Mito Health resells the Whole Body Scan at $2,266.92 to its members in 12 states plus DC, per our check on October 14, 2026; Mito's membership itself costs $9 a month. Prenuvo has offered reduced prices to first responders, military personnel and veterans, and Fortune reported a $500 discount for John Hancock Vitality members in 2024. Check whether any of these are current before relying on them.

Financing and HSA/FSA. Affirm financing is available (Prenuvo's examples: from $108.22 a month for Core to $360.94 for Executive). Prenuvo says its services may qualify for HSA/FSA reimbursement depending on IRS rules and your plan; keep the receipt. Insurance doesn't cover the scan, though Prenuvo says many members have had full or partial reimbursement. One BBB complainant says Prenuvo wouldn't provide the "superbill" information their insurer needed.

Price history. About $2,500 for the full-body scan since at least 2023 (Ars Technica, Fortune). Memberships launched in March 2026, with Executive reported at nearly $5,000 (AuntMinnie, Mar 2026). On October 9, 2026 we recorded Executive at $4,999 in New York City; on November 5 Prenuvo's page showed $3,999 ($4,499 in New York City). Prenuvo's "list" figures beside member prices ($1,329, $3,099, $5,897) are its own comparison values, not former prices we verified.

What customers say

Trustpilot. 2.4 out of 5 from 13 reviews on an unclaimed profile, checked November 5, 2026 (Trustpilot). Three are five-star and ten are one- or two-star. That rests on a very small, self-selected sample and isn't a reliable guide to overall satisfaction. The negative reviews we read are mostly about findings the reviewer says were missed or changed, cancelled appointments or consultations, a refund turned into credit, and results taking up to five weeks. The positive ones credit an early thyroid cancer diagnosis, peace of mind and friendly staff.

BBB. Not accredited, with an F rating and 6 complaints in three years, 4 of them in the last 12 months; 3 were unanswered when we checked on November 5 (BBB). They cover a results review that allegedly never happened, repeated cancellations and a promised credit, insurance paperwork, and a report that left out findings, which ended in a full refund.

Reddit. We coded three threads from 2025 to November 2026: "Any thoughts on Prenuvo body scans?" (r/PeterAttia, a longevity community), "Thoughts on Prenuvo scan & 'medical vacations'" (r/AskDocs) and "Prenuvo scans are a scam" (r/MRI, a community of MRI professionals). We also read "Are full-body MRIs like Prenuvo and Ezra worth it?" (r/blueprint_), but no one in it said they'd had a Prenuvo scan. This is a small, selected sample, not a satisfaction rate.

Overall account by person who said they'd had a Prenuvo scan, BML's coding (method below). This is our reading of their accounts, not a verified assessment of the product.

  • Scanned more than once, or plan toneutral6
  • Praise
  • Complaint
  • Neutral

One person can mention several themes, so counts don't add up to the sample size.

The individual accounts show the range:

  • One customer says they and their husband were scanned with no symptoms, and his scan showed stage 2 pancreatic cancer. They say Johns Hopkins confirmed it was caught at an operable stage; he had surgery and chemotherapy and was disease-free two years later. This is the strongest positive account in the sample.
  • A 35-year-old paid $2,500 in Las Vegas, praised the clinic, and had results the next day. The report found nothing, including a fully torn adductor tendon confirmed on an earlier MRI and a shoulder repaired six weeks before. MRI professionals in the thread said whole-body sequences aren't designed to assess joints and tendons, which matches Prenuvo's FAQ, but the customer says the report should not have read as normal.
  • One scan flagged two brain aneurysms; the author changed their routine for five months until a CT showed none, and says the CT found a thyroid nodule the scan hadn't reported.
  • One scan in August 2025 flagged a possible pancreatic cyst; a targeted MRI with contrast six months later found nothing, possibly an artifact. The author calls it needless worry.
  • One user wrote that a repeat scan didn't report a serious condition that an earlier Prenuvo scan had found. We couldn't verify this account.
  • Most positive accounts were brief: a clear result, a clear write-up, peace of mind.

These accounts show what can happen, not how often. Two other authors posted Prenuvo referral codes, one of them in an otherwise positive account, so referral rewards may shape some of what's posted.

Non-customers, including people identifying as clinicians and MRI technologists, split sharply, and none of their claims was verified. Critics said whole-body sequences are less detailed than an MRI of one body part, that MRI is a poor test for the lungs, and that findings send healthy people into monitoring and biopsies that find nothing. Supporters, including a nurse practitioner with 15 years in oncology, said cancers such as pancreatic and ovarian have no early test and that follow-up is usually more imaging rather than surgery. In r/AskDocs, a physician told a 32-year-old with a CHEK2 gene variant that Prenuvo can't substitute for breast surveillance. Several commenters mentioned cash-pay full-body MRI at a local radiology center (one reported paying $950).

Before you book: checklist

  • Ask your own doctor whether they'll review the report and order follow-up if needed
  • Check you're up to date on guideline screening the scan doesn't replace
  • Check your metal implants and devices against Prenuvo's FAQ before paying
  • Note the 7-day cancellation cutoff
  • If you buy a membership for one scan, put the renewal date in your calendar
  • Read the arbitration and liability sections of the terms
  • Set aside money for follow-up tests

How to choose.

  • A longer whole-body scan with the spine in one price? Prenuvo's Whole Body Scan. Compare what each scan covers, who reads it and what follow-up you get, not price or scan length alone; no study we found compares Prenuvo's and Ezra's accuracy directly.
  • A full-body MRI at the lowest price? Ezra, or Prenuvo through Mito if you're in a covered state.
  • Thinking about heart disease? MRI doesn't show coronary plaque. Calcium scores and blood markers are the usual tools, and your doctor can say whether they make sense for you.
  • Behind on the screening your age and sex call for? That screening is cheaper and better proven. Your doctor can say what's due.

Editorial assessment. Potentially suitable for people who can afford it, want a one-time baseline, and have a doctor ready to handle findings. Less suitable as a yearly habit, as a substitute for guideline screening, or for anyone likely to be worried by minor findings.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a Prenuvo scan cost?

$2,499 for the Whole Body Scan, $1,199 for the Focused Scan and $3,999 for the Enhanced Scan. Memberships are $1,199 to $3,999 a year ($4,499 for Executive in New York City), and they renew automatically.

Is Prenuvo worth it?

For a healthy person, that is unproven. Whole-body MRI finds cancer in about 1 to 2 people in 100 and something in nearly everyone, and no trial shows it helps people live longer.

Does insurance cover Prenuvo?

Prenuvo says it isn't covered by health insurance, though it says many members have had full or partial reimbursement from their insurers. It may be HSA/FSA eligible depending on IRS rules and your plan administrator.

Do I need a referral?

Not for US clinics. Prenuvo's Canadian clinics require one.

Does Prenuvo use radiation or contrast?

Neither. It is an MRI scan with no contrast injection.

Can Prenuvo replace a mammogram or colonoscopy?

No. Prenuvo's own FAQ says it recommends routine screening such as mammograms and colon cancer screening alongside its scan.

Does Prenuvo show heart disease?

Not coronary plaque or blocked arteries. Prenuvo says its heart add-on does not directly show them. A coronary calcium score CT measures calcified plaque, and ApoB and Lp(a) blood tests measure risk markers. Your doctor can say whether either makes sense for you.

How long do results take?

Prenuvo says you will generally get your report within 5 business days, or 3 to 4 weeks for its Enhanced scan. Reviewers and customers report from a day or two up to about five weeks.

What happens if something is found?

A clinician explains it on a results call, and a provider calls directly if it's urgent. Prenuvo doesn't order follow-up tests or make referrals, so those go through your own doctor.

Is Prenuvo cheaper than Ezra?

No. Ezra's Annual MRI is $999 against Prenuvo's $2,499, though Prenuvo's Whole Body Scan is longer and includes the spine. They are different packages, and no study we found compares their accuracy directly.

How we researched this, sources and updates

Method. We reviewed Prenuvo's US pricing page, FAQ, terms and privacy notices, its own study results and white paper, an independent review and meta-analysis of whole-body MRI in people without symptoms, the American College of Radiology's statement, court reporting on the Clifford case, three journalists' first-hand accounts, and public customer ratings on Trustpilot, the BBB and Reddit. Manufacturer claims are treated as unverified until independently tested. BML didn't have a scan and didn't contact Prenuvo for this version. This page was drafted with Claude, an AI tool, and checked against the sources below. No brand pays to be listed or for its position.

How we coded owner reviews.

  • Unit counted: on Reddit, each unique author who said they'd had a Prenuvo scan. Clinicians commenting on other people's scans, people describing a relative's scan, people saying they worked at Prenuvo, people who used another provider, and people only considering a scan were excluded. Authors who only posted a referral code were excluded unless they also described their scan.
  • Sentiment: the author's overall account. Positive if favorable overall; negative if they advised against it, regretted it, or described a finding that turned out wrong; mixed if both. One author who described only a false alarm, without advising against the scan, was coded negative. This is our reading of their account, not a verified assessment.
  • Themes: one account can mention several themes, so theme counts don't add up to the sample size.

Not medical advice. Nothing here is a recommendation for your health. Whether a scan makes sense for you, and what to do about any result, is a question for your doctor.
